MNA will partner with the Hinds Community College – Utica Campus, Mississippi to evaluate the newly funded 3-year NSF-ITEST program (2017-2020), Rural Girls Engaged in Mathematics and Science Plus Technology (R-GEMS+T). The project will support the development, implementation, and testing of innovative educational experiences for 120 rising high school junior and senior students and introduce up to 300 students to STEM education and careers in 3 rural counties across four high schools in MS. Through this initiative, HCC-UC proposes to grow the pipeline of female students who are aware of STEM and computer science education educational pathways and career opportunities. The program will also support relationships between the four high schools using a near-peer developmental model, PD sessions for high school educators, and psycho-social and emotional supports covering diversity, gender, equity, and economic issues as ways to increase the number of female students in STEM. We are looking forward to this partnership. We are very excited about the new opportunity and our partnership with HCC-UC.
