We have been awarded a 5-year evaluation contract by Broward College in Florida for the NSF-funded S-STEM grant (2016-20). Scholarship Targeting Recruitment of Individuals for Degrees in Environmental Sciences (STRIDES) Program will recruit, train, and retain up to 30 academically talented undergraduate students over the grant period. STRIDES will offer an experiential learning curriculum that will combine general cognitive and workplace knowledge with applied science- and industry-specific skills to help overcome barriers that prevent successful completion of program of studies. The student program of study will be focused on BC’s 2+2 Environmental Science program that culminates in a Bachelor of Science degree. MNA will assess the process and outcomes of the initiative by tracking recruitment, enrollment, persistence and completion rates. Surveys, on-site interviews, and extant data will be collected over the course of the period. With the S-STEM opportunity, MNA will have evaluated a total of 7 NSF grants since 2009. Looking forward to the new collaboration. Looking forward to working with the STRIDES team at BC.
