The 4-week mindfulness program (Holistic Me Summer) will engage up to 150 K-5 students at Robert W Coleman ES in summer 2017. This is an ongoing effort by HLF at the school since 2014 where currently a 21st CCLC after school program is underway. The summer program will include both academic and enrichment components: Yoga and breathing exercises, activities around leadership, service learning, and character development/ building skills; professional development for staff and youth who will work with the students, and a culminating parent / family event at the end of summer. Data collection activities will include: Student and staff surveys, analyses of student behavior via incident logs and reports, and academic performance analyses via staff developed pre-and-post tests. MNA is excited to be a part of the mindfulness summer program as well as the during school year’s 21st CCLC grant evaluation efforts.
