MNA observed grade 3 students at WSG try out a State Giant Traveling Map (SGTM) of the District of Columbia, courtesy of the National Geographic Society. The students and their teacher enjoyed an hour-long session with the interactive 16′ x 20′ floor map to practice their mapping and spatial thinking skills, reinforcing lessons learned regarding map grids, coordinates, scales and discovering something new and different in the process. Time very well spent. To learn about the initiative: www.nationalgeographic.org/education/giant-traveling-maps/states/
