Mindfulness education has been receiving a lot of attention. We would like to take a moment to highlight one of our ongoing evaluation projects of one such program at an elementary school in Baltimore City called Holistic Me program, being run by Holistic Life foundation. Several studies of the HM program have been conducted since 2010, demonstrating the perceived impact it has on students, including on self-control as well as in reducing problematic responses to stress. Many other studies have also shown mindfulness practices to be effective in helping students to improve their social and emotional learning skills. Mindfulness education programs also appear to show a positive affect on problematic responses to stress including rumination, intrusive thoughts, and emotional arousal for students. HM is one such program that promises to use practices such as yoga and meditation to help students maintain a sense of balance, rhythm, and calm even in conditions of uncertainty and stress. We thank HLF for giving us the opportunity to learn to observe mindfulness each day. (Photo credit: HLF.)
