The “Evaluation” Countdown

If you’re like me, these final days of December seem to move at a slower pace, almost blending into a seamless flow of relaxation and reflection. Cozy indoors, braving the weather with a comforting cup of kadak chai (strong tea) and indulging in some delightful baked treats.

Amidst this leisure, there’s a genuine effort to dive into the backlog of unread PDFs, articles, and open tabs that have accumulated on the laptop/desktop – a mission to untangle the digital clutter and glean knowledge from the neglected. A feeble attempt, perhaps, to catch up on missed series/films, and the realization that rekindling with these neglected reads might be a rewarding venture.

For those interested in revisiting or exploring shorter pieces on research and evaluation that garnered attention this year, here’s a curated list of my top 10 reads, each requiring about 5-6 min. of your time.

A recent encounter with a fellow evaluator at a conference left me with a humbling compliment: “I truly appreciate your posts. They’re original, and practical, delving into aspects that are seldom covered in school or evaluation courses, and certainly not found in any book. People hesitate to discuss and share these insights openly.”

Grateful for the acknowledgment, I must confess that these lessons were acquired through trial and error. I hope that fellow evaluators, project leads, and others will read, learn, and be attuned to these nuances, steering clear of potential pitfalls.

Life is an ongoing lesson, and as we navigate through it, let’s continue to absorb and evolve. Wishing you an enlightening reading journey.
