The National Leadership Conference at Turf Valley Resort, held on June 13-14, 2024, provided a platform to discuss and highlight key developments in the teacher residency program at Frostburg State University since 2019. This program, known as Maryland Accelerates, which integrates academic coursework with practical teaching experience, exemplifies the commitment to enhancing teacher readiness and improving student outcomes in high needs schools.
The conference offered a valuable opportunity to delve into the achievements and growth opportunities of such programs, fostering a collaborative environment for sharing promising practices and innovative strategies.
MNA has played a crucial role in evaluating the MA residency program since its inception. Our comprehensive assessments have focused on various aspects, including mentorship effectiveness, theory-practice integration, and long-term teacher retention.
Leveraging our experience evaluating various teacher preparation programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education, we have provided valuable insights into the program’s impact and areas for improvement.
This conference served as a platform for us to showcase success stories, share good practices, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on improving teacher residency programs nationwide.
The collaborative efforts and shared knowledge at the conference underscore the commitment to continuous improvement in teacher preparation. By bringing together stakeholders, educators, and policy makers the event facilitated meaningful discussions on how to further enhance teacher residency programs. Ultimately, the goal is to improve educational outcomes for students by ensuring that teachers are well-prepared, supported, and equipped to meet the diverse needs of today’s classrooms.
