The National Data Science Alliance (NDSA) is a $10 million initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the INCLUDES-ALLIANCE program spearheaded by the fearless and dynamic Dr. Talitha Washington.
The Research Affinity Cohorts (RAC), a key component of the NDSA offers HBCU faculty investigators a hands-on, intensive summer research experience to explore methods and models addressing bias, ethics, fairness, and validity in data science on their respective research topics.
This 2-week residential program aims to accelerate discovery and innovation in hashtagdatascience by connecting multidisciplinary faculty and staff from hashtagHBCUs to conduct impactful research and dissemination under the mentorship of a senior faculty member/researcher from another institution (aka “technical advisor”).
During this time, the participants will not only enhance their research capabilities but also join a vibrant community of like-minded data science researchers, shaping the future of the field to positively impact African American/Black communities.
During my time this week at the prestigious hashtagClarkAtlantaUniversity, I have greatly enjoyed interacting with the faculty researchers from various disciplines involved in this transformative program, learning about their research interests, present and future goals, and discussing grant evaluation.
I will miss being in person here next week to see the final team presentations but really looking forward to joining virtually. 🙌🏼
