MN Associates, Inc. is proud to partner with the University of Utah on the transformative NSF S-STEM Track 2 project!
The NSF S-STEM (Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program is a critical initiative designed to increase the number of academically talented but financially disadvantaged students who earn degrees in STEM fields. By providing scholarships and support services, the S-STEM program helps to bridge the gap between potential and opportunity, ensuring that capable students have the resources they need to succeed in their educational and professional journeys.
The S-STEM program specifically targets undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate both financial need and academic potential. Through this program, institutions of higher education can offer scholarships to students pursuing degrees in various STEM disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The ultimate goal is to foster a diverse and well-prepared STEM workforce that meets the evolving needs of the U.S. economy.
In addition to financial support, the NSF S-STEM program emphasizes the importance of building supportive educational environments. Institutions are encouraged to implement mentoring, academic support, and career development activities that help students overcome barriers to success. These activities are designed to increase student retention, graduation rates, and preparation for the STEM workforce.
This initiative is crucial in addressing the national need for a diverse and well-educated STEM workforce by supporting high-achieving, low-income graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in Cognitive/Neuroscience, Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Human Developmental Sciences, and Statistics.
Over the next six years, this NSF-funded project will provide two-year scholarships to 31 talented students, equipping them with essential data science skills and preparing them for impactful careers in STEM. The University of Utah, a leader in the Responsible AI initiative, is fostering an interdisciplinary talent pool ready to meet the workforce demands of the future.
At MNA, our role as evaluators is to provide formative feedback, ensuring the project meets its ambitious goals. We’re excited to contribute to new knowledge about what drives the success of low-income talented students in STEM and to support the development of mentorship and career preparation strategies that build resilience and promote success.
This project represents a powerful step forward in creating pathways for diverse, financially disadvantaged students to achieve their full potential in STEM fields.
We’re thrilled to be part of this journey and can’t wait to see the impact it will have on the future of STEM education and workforce development!
