A Guidebook and Workbook on Calculating Effect Size with Small Samples Using Hedges’ g

We are very excited to share our latest publication: A Guidebook and Workbook on Calculating Effect Size with Small Samples Using Hedges’ g!

These are now live as website resources at the AAAS S-STEM REC.

Developed with support from the NSF S-STEM, these resources were intentionally designed as practice-oriented tools—not just references—to help evaluators, PIs, and project teams rigorously and responsibly demonstrate impact in small-N contexts. While grounded in S-STEM, they are broadly applicable to any program or evaluation working with small samples.

What’s included:
• Plain-language explanations of effect size and Hedges’ g
• Worked examples and common pitfalls
• Hands-on exercises and practice datasets
• Guidance on interpretation and reporting for reviewers and funders
